Come Ride With Us
Welcome! Grizzly Peak Cyclists is a bicycle club of about 600 members based in Berkeley, California.
We have club rides every weekend throughout the year, and many weekdays too. Roughly half our rides are in the East Bay; the rest are all over the San Francisco Bay Area, and beyond. Our ride calendar is posted every month on this website and in our newsletter. Our members' riding interests run the gamut. We have novices, intermediates, advanceds, and everything in between. Our rides are correspondingly diverse.
Anyone is welcome on our rides. Each ride is rated to indicate the expected terrain, pace, and distance, so you can choose a ride suited to your abilities. Be sure to review our rider guidelines before your first ride to avoid any surprises. Advance signup is not necessary, but feel free to contact a ride's leader in advance with any questions.
Grizzly Peak Century
Every year since 1975 we have hosted the Grizzly Peak Century. The event is known for its challenging but beautiful terrain and gourmet home-made food. For more information, see our century website. We hope to see you there on the first Sunday in May.
Every year, we make significant donations out of the proceeds raised from our Grizzly Peak Century to organizations and causes that promote or help bicycling in some way — be it advocacy, safety, education, awareness, or the bicycling environment. See our donations page for details.
GPC members are invited to join our Strava club. For more information see our member benefits page.
Century Registration Open, Volunteers Needed
Registration is now open for the 2018 Grizzly Peak Century to be held on Sunday, May 6. Volunteers are always needed to help. We have opportunities on century-day itself and also in the days before and after — so you can both ride and volunteer, if you like. Volunteers get a T-shirt and a Ride-Leader credit.
Century-Prep Ride Series, Mar 4 - Apr 29
Join us for a series of nine weekly rides for intermediate bicyclists who want to build stamina, increase range, and get ready to ride a Century. They are on consecutive Sundays, from March 4 up to the week before our Century. They gradually progress in distance from about 25 to about 50 miles. All are over moderately hilly terrain, similar to that of the Grizzly Peak Century. Those who complete the series should be well-prepared to ride at least the 76-mile (metric century) route. For more information see our Century Prep Series page.
Century Facebook Page
The Grizzly Peak Century now has a Facebook page. Like and follow us! Feel free to add your review.
Road Closures From Winter Storms
Many of our favorite roads were washed out and closed last winter due to heavy storms. By now, most have reopened but not all. Redwood Road is still closed; currently expected to reopen in early March but this may change. Calaveras Road is still closed; currently expected to reopen in late 2018. BikeEastBay has a web page with (reasonably) current status for Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. It includes links to various County web pages for more up-to-date info.
Let our motto be your guide —
Ride to Eat and Eat to Ride!
